Disregarding the conditions of your stay permit or visa in Colombia can result in immediate penalties, including fines and interactions with immigration authorities. Migración Colombia determines overstay fines based on the severity of the infraction and the number of days overstayed. Penalties can vary widely, ranging from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. Overstaying your stay permit or its extension for more than 180 days, or exceeding the validity of your visa, can result economic penalties when leaving the country or attempting to start a Colombian visa process. However, it may also lead to more serious consequences, including deportation and long-term repercussions, such as being prohibited from returning to Colombia for a specific period. Avoiding prolonged overstays is crucial to prevent these legal issues and penalties. Regularizing your legal status might help you avoid these fines and other potential legal consequences.
